A friend cited this phrase today, and pointed out a different perspective on it…
But behold, I say unto you, the kingdom of God is not filthy, and there cannot any unclean thing enter into the kingdom of God. (1 Nephi 15:34)
Usually I think of “any unclean thing” as the mark of sin. However, this could also refer to sadness, shame, hurt, pain, regret, sorrow, or a myriad of other difficult emotions. When we come into the kingdom of God, into God’s presence, the atonement will not only wash away our sin, but also all the difficult aspects of life. As Preach my Gospel states:
As we rely on the Atonement of Jesus Christ, He can help us endure our trials, sicknesses, and pain. We can be filled with joy, peace, and consolation. All that is unfair about life can be made right through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. (Lesson 2: The Plan of Salvation)
I heard HWN today through this new perspective on “unclean” things :)
