How do I know God exists?
There are some things in life I know because I repeatedly experience them. Things like… Spring follows Winter; my fleece pajama pants are soft and comfortable (wearing them right now, lol); and sleep, hot showers, and food are wonderful things :)
The keyword is “repeatedly” not “constantly”
I know those things even when they’re not currently happening — because I have experienced them many times in the past.
And I trust my experience.
That’s how it is with the divine as well…
In my blog I choose to record experiences with the divine — how I see my Heavenly Parents’ hands in my life. But those experiences are not constant, and honestly they’re not the norm. I don’t exist in constant awe of unmistakable internal and external witnesses to Their existence.
But I know They exist.
And I know They love me.
Because I choose to remember the times I experienced them in my past. In the much more common ordinary present I remember experiences that I considered extraordinary in my past.
And I trust my experience.
I’m reminded of President Eyring’s commitment to how he responds after seeing Heavenly Parents’ involvement in his life:
I will find a way to preserve that memory for the day that I, and those that I love, will need to remember how much God loves us and how much we need Him.
O Remember, Remember; October 2007
My HWN today came in a discussion with my friend Jamen about these ideas and importance of remembering :)
p.s. I went skiing for the first time in my life last Saturday :) Only fell 8 times! ;)
And thanks again to Jamen and Graden for letting me borrow their gear!
