To heal the brokenhearted

Tonight at institute we read when Christ cited this scripture prophesying of himself:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Luke 4:18-19)

This word, “brokenhearted” has been on my mind a lot lately, and I felt blessed to be part of a discussion (my HWN today) of its meaning in this context. One comment that stuck out to me was the perspective that a broken heart is an inescapable part of our earth life; just by the fact that we are fallen beings, our hearts need healing through Christ. I’m so glad that Christ heals us from every form of heartbreak, as none would be easy — let alone possible — alone.
