Excellence is mundane

This quote was confusing at first when Ty shared it in priesthood today. Some context can help though…

People often wonder “What does it take to be excellent?” In fact, it’s a pattern of small (mundane) things that engenders excellence. Sadly, similar to Naaman  or the Israelites from the old testament, we humans tend to be disinclined “because of the simpleness of the way” (1 Nephi 17:41).

Some of the small things I want to improve are: daily scripture study, sincere prayer, attitude of gratitude, and a habit of service.

I heard HWN today through increased commitment to the small things!

p.s. I also ran into my friend Alex Grey and his wife on a walk in the beautiful evening weather :) It was nice to catch up after about a year!

  1. Reminds me of this most excellent quote:

“Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay… small acts of kindness and love.”
