Godly Sorrow

In a discussion about repentance with a friend today, he shared:

“For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.” (2 Cor 7:10)

Life is in large part about repentance and change, because we spend a large part of our lives making mistakes and sinning. What we do after is decisive. Responding with godly sorrow is knowing that we chose bad, but are good with great potential. Responding with sorrow of the world (shame) is knowing that we chose bad, and believing we are bad with no potential. Godly sorrow brings us closer to God and Christ while sorrow of the world pulls us away.

I heard HWN today in this discussion about repentance!
