Lessons from a broken ankle

Post-surgery Thumbs up!

My cousin Sean shared with me today what he learned from having broken his ankle in three places and needing surgery with screws and a metal plate. He’s current in recovery in a wheel chair most of the time. Life lessons he shared:

  • “There are so many things I took for granted!” (Being able to: walk on the beach; carry his kids; get in and out of bed alone; get a snack out of the fridge; and many more!)
  • “It could have been much worse!” (He recognized the trials of others around him and was grateful for how well things are in fact going for him!)
  • “I have more empathy for people.” (He felt he could understand others more who go through similar or worse things.)

I heard HWN today through Sean’s example of patience in and growth through trials!
