Wives, submit yourselves unto your husbands

Provocative title, right? Well, I think that scripture can easily be misused… Quoting Christ from Ephesians 5:22-25:

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.

I appreciate the context of these verses — “as Christ.” Christ’s relationship with the church is an example for a husband’s relationship with his wife and children. In this context, a man as the “head of the household” would be: charitable, selfless, kind, self-sacrificing, and any other Christ-like adjectives you think of. Never: dominating, disrespectful, demanding… etc.

I heard HWN today in our discussion along these lines at institute.
